About Session

In this live demonstration, Amanda will create an encaustic vessel bowl inspired by the philosophy of wabi sabi, the beauty found in imperfection, texture, and the passage of time.

Beginning with a paper clay bowl structure, she will demonstrate how she builds dimensional surfaces using Powertex to strengthen the form and create depth and sculptural movement. Natural elements and organic papers are embedded into the surface to develop rich texture and layered history.

Amanda will also share how she creates the distinctive “pop cracks” within the vessel and how controlled heat is applied to encourage organic cracking and surface movement.

Participants will gain insight into her intuitive approach to sculptural encaustic and how simple materials can be transformed into expressive vessel forms. Attendees will leave with new ideas for building texture, embedding natural materials, and encouraging organic cracking in their own work.
