About Session

The power and mystery of telling stories through your art. We create work that brings the viewer into the story and allows the viewer to learn, understand, and interpret the story. As artists we often work alone and tell stories from our own viewpoint or perspective, creating a personal message in our art. Art can also be powerful when created in collaboration with others.

In this presentation we will explore creating art through a collaborative lens. Creating art that is in fact telling someone else’s story. So, what do we have to do to create art that faithfully tells the story from the perspective of another storyteller? How do we determine the lens through which the story should be told? What is the message that the (collaborator) story teller is really trying to express? Are there any parts of the story that the teller is trying to exclude? Or, is there a part they would rather not be disclosed? What is the role as artist in creating work based on a story that belongs to someone else? Finally, we will explore if the artist’s role is different as the interpreter or translator rather than teller?
